Cycling in Moliets
You have chosen to come and spend your holidays in Moliets-et-Maa and you have done well! You will be able to fully enjoy the Landes and the great scenery that Moliets offers. With its beaches, its pond, the mouth of the Huchet current and the Vélodyssée which crosses the town, Moliets has no shortage of reasons to have fun and enjoy with the family.
Our number one tip, leave the car aside and do everything by bike. Moliets allows you to cycle safely on all main roads thanks to its well-marked cycle paths.
To get to Vieux boucau or Léon, you can also take the famous Vélodyssée.

Direction Vieux-Boucau.
Idea for a bike ride between Moliets and Vieux Boucau (20km):
Departure from Moliets, take the cycle path towards Vieux Boucau. Turn left in front of the restaurant « Le Ti-bou« , when you come from the beach to pick up the Vélodyssée. The route follows the Landes coast through the pines. You will pass by the charming seaside resorts of Messanges and Soustons Plage, where you can stop to admire the beach and the Atlantic Ocean.
Arriving in Vieux Boucau, take the time to visit the village and its marine lake, an expanse of salt water separated from the ocean by a narrow strip of sand. You can go around the lake by bike, taking the cycle path that borders it, and discover its many wild beaches. In Vieux boucau if you are looking for a restaurant, go to the Captain bar on the central beach. You won’t be on it!
For the return, you can follow the same route in reverse. Once in Moliets, head towards the Prade pond and the mouth of the current to vary the landscapes. This walk will introduce you to the salt marshes and the preserved nature of the Courant d’Huchet nature reserve.
This bike ride is relatively easy and accessible to all levels. It will allow you to discover the most beautiful landscapes of the Landes coast, while enjoying the great outdoors and physical exercise.
Direction Leon.
Idea for a bike ride between Moliets and Léon from 12km to 30km:
From Moliets, take the cycle path towards Léon (around 6 km). This cycle path allows you to enjoy the magnificent forest landscape while remaining in the shade of the Landes pines.
After crossing the Landes forest, you arrive in Léon, a charming little town located on the shores of Lake Léon. Take advantage of this stopover to walk around the lake, watch the birds, or stop at one of the cafes or restaurants in the city center. Also take advantage of the superb market which is held daily in summer.
If you need a repair on your bike, stop at Cyclerie-Léon, our bike shop in Léon, which is located in the village church square and the market. We would be delighted to help you.
Turn around to return to Moliets or then head back towards Vielle-st-Girons to go around the lake via the cycle paths. En route, you can stop at the lake beach or Lette Blanche, a wild and preserved beach located between Moliets and Vielle-Saint-Girons. The beach is accessible by bike up to the dune. Take advantage of this stop to swim or simply relax on the sand.
Finish the loop via the Pichelèbe road but be careful of cars because there is no longer a cycle path until Moliets! In reality, we recommend this walk more in the off-season precisely because of the cars. This part is also a little hillier and the route will be harder than towards Vieux-boucau.
This cycle loop between Moliets and Léon takes you around 30 km in total, it will require more effort but anyone can take it.

Focus on the mouth of the Hûchet current
The mouth of the Courant d’Huchet is a magnificent place where the Huchet River flows into the Atlantic Ocean. It is a preserved and protected natural site, which is renowned for its beauty and biological diversity.
The Huchet Current is a small river that winds through pine forests and swamps before emptying into the ocean. Where the river meets the sea there is a large expanse of sand stretching several hundred meters.
The Huchet current winds between the dunes at its mouth, then flows into the ocean. The banks of the river are lined with lush vegetation if you walk along the route.
In the water you can see fish and shellfish, as well as seabirds fishing in the surrounding area. It is a peaceful and calm place, where you can enjoy nature in all its splendor.
